In this session plan, you can discuss how hard it is to create something and the emotions you go through during that challenging work. Explore the actions of Jabari’s dad and younger sister in finding solutions. Give the student the opportunity to predict the story while reading it together. In addition, look through the book to see the illustrations to create a list of words describing emotions. Write the words in the student’s “My Journal” or “Words I’m Learning, Words I Know” booklet.
